Right Thinking

Text: Proverbs 12:5 & 15:26,

Introduction:

            The contrast of the two ways of thinking, or two ideas or thought are present not only here but through out the Bible. I am going to deal with only the positive aspects of “Right Thinking” this evening which should make it obvious what danger there is in having wrong thoughts and wrong thinking.

I.       The Importance of Right Thinking:

A.      Examples of wrong thinking:

1.        Determines our grief - Lot – Genesis 13:10-11

2.        Determines our trouble - Jonah – Jonah 1:3

3.        Determines our shame - The prodigal son – Luke 15:11-17

4.        Determines our destiny - The rich fool – Luke 12:16:22

B.       Examples of right thinking:

1.        Determines our standards of morality – Joseph – Genesis 39:1-18

2.        Determines the strength of our testimony - Peter and John – Acts 4:20

3.        Determines the consistency of our resolution – Daniel – eating and drinking, praying, etc.

4.        Determines the glory of God’s blessing - Jacob and Bethel – Genesis 35

II.    Revelations which come from Right Thinking:

A.      Traveling the wrong course – Proverbs 14:12 (The Prodigal son)

B.       A Right view of self

1.        Seeing ourselves as sinners

2.        Seeing Christ as our Savior

3.        Seeing ourselves as needy

4.        Seeing ourselves as rich

5.        Seeing ourselves as sons

III. The Compelling action Of Right Thinking:

A.      Prodigal son and his return

B.       Peter and Pentecost

C.       Paul and Damascus

IV.  The Results of Right Thinking:

A.      David had the joy of his salvation returned:

B.       Paul had a crown waiting for him and a finished course satisfied – II Time. 4:8

C.       The Prodigal son had a table spread
