Regeneration
Sermon Text: I Peter 1:3, 23
Introduction:
Article 7 of the New Hampshire Confession of Faith states:
We believe that, in order to be saved, sinners must be regenerated, or born again;
that regeneration consists in giving a holy disposition to the mind;
that it is effected in a manner above our comprehension by the power of the Holy Spirit, in connection with divine truth, so as to secure our voluntary obedience to the gospel;
and that its proper evidence appears in the holy fruits of repentance, and faith, and newness of life.
What is Meant by Regeneration?
It means to be born again or born from above
It means a new nature is given
How is Someone Regenerated?
God regenerates according to his good pleasure
God regenerates according to his sovereign will
God regenerates in the presence of his word
Who are (or were) those Regenerated?
Lost men
Dead men
Antagonistic men
Unbelieving men
Sinful men
Rebellious men
What are the Effects of Regeneration?
There is a change in nature
My appreciations change
My desires change
My will changes
There is a change in abilities
In works
In discernment
In hope and trust
In sufferings
In satisfactions
In confiding
